Your care at North American Migraine starts with a preliminary process to determine if you’re a candidate for the Alpha Procedure. Once this process is complete, we will schedule a free virtual consultation with our migraine experts. During this appointment, we will conduct a thorough assessment of your condition and provide education and details regarding the Alpha Procedure. Trial Period, Implantation, Recovery, and Aftercare
Once approved and authorized by insurance, we will schedule an in-person trial procedure with a North American Migraine specialist. During this trial period, you will wear a neurostimulation device externally to determine whether the therapy works for you. The trial typically takes 2-3 days and is definitive—if it works, the permanent procedure will work as well.
Upon completion of a successful trial, we will seek authorization to perform the procedure and schedule the implantation appointment at one of our partner hospitals. On the day of the procedure, you will be asked to arrive a few hours in advance, and most patients go home that same day. Our skilled team will make a small incision that allows them to carefully implant the device under the skin. You will receive sedation with general anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. The process is minimally invasive and completely reversible, and there is an expected post-op recovery period of 1-2 days. We will provide you with aftercare instructions and any necessary prescriptions for pain management as you leave the facility.
